If you’re hoping to get some great titles to play during the holidays, without breaking the bank, the Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games will be sure to keep you occupied.

Including some titles worthy of our best open world games list, to one of the best Soulslike games in recent memory, a healthy lineup of 12 games will join the ever-growing Xbox Game Pass games library before 2024 kicks off. And if you were hoping to buy yourself one of the best Xbox controllers for the holidays, these cost-effective games will help you save for that new piece of kit.

The Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games being added are:

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Three characters from Remnant grouping up and shooting enemies

Remnant: From the Ashes – November 30 (Console, PC, Cloud)

A returning entry to the Game Pass service, Remnant: From the Ashes is a terrific game that will keep you and your friends occupied for up to 60 hours.

It’s a solid Soulslike that delivers on the difficulty of the genre while offering a focus on being one of the best co-op games available. Instead of swords and magic, however, you’ll be taking down some larger-than-life bosses using guns and bullets.

That’s not all though, as once you’ve finished playing Remnant: From the Ashes, Game Pass is going to let you dive straight into its new sequel…

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Three characters from Remnant 2 facing and shooting at a red-eyed large boss

Remnant 2 – November 30 (Xbox Series X|S, PC, Cloud)

Remnant 2 is one of our favorite games of 2023, and as we mentioned in our Remnant 2 review, it “more than improves on the foundation laid by its predecessor, making for an enjoyable and action-filled romp”.

Similar to its predecessor, Remnant 2 is one of the best Xbox co-op games, bringing that Soulslike action into the current generation of consoles. Everything is improved upon here, with more content, bigger procedural worlds, and an in-depth class system – choosing the best Remnant 2 class is just as important as your gun skill.

The game is currently receiving additional content thanks to new DLCs, and better yet, you don’t necessarily need to buy the DLC to play it, as you can join friends who own the expansions. So, make sure to pick up the Remnant 2 best weapons, and take on the horrors that await you.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: A blue ghostly fox in Spirit of the North running in a dimly-lit forest

Spirit of the North – December 1 (Console, PC, Cloud)

One of the most beautiful indie games out there, Spirit of the North takes you to mysterious landscapes inspired by Iceland. You play as an ordinary fox, who meets the guardian of the Northern Lights, starting an enthralling journey in this third-person adventure title.

If after playing intense matches of the best FPS games or enjoying the sprawling worlds of the best RPG games you want a short-but-sweet narrative, then this roughly five-hour adventure will have you emotional.

Steamworld Build – December 1 (Console, PC, Cloud)

A day-one release for Game Pass, Steamworld Build takes place on a dying planet as you’ll attempt to dig underground for resources, build a large world, and ensure that all of its inhabitants are provided with the necessities to live.

If you enjoy strategy games like Cities Skylines or other city-building games, Steamworld Build is a lovely management sim from the team behind the Steamworld games.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: A robot gladiator facing enemies in Clone Drone in the Danger Zone

Clone Drone in the Danger Zone – December 5 (Xbox Series X|S, PC, Cloud)

Love slicing enemies up into smaller parts? Then Clone Drone in the Danger Zone might be the stress release you’ve been needing. This voxel-style robot game turns you into the ultimate robot gladiator, offering a story mode and multiple multiplayer modes too.

The game was originally released on Steam in early access back in 2017, before being released on consoles in 2021, meaning you’ll have years of content and updates to enjoy.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Lara Croft holding a knife and jumping down onto enemies in Rise of the Tomb Raider

Rise of the Tomb Raider – December 5 (Console, PC, Cloud)

The second part in the reboot Lara Croft trilogy, Rise of the Tomb Raider sees you take on the role of the beloved treasure hunter as she uncovers the mystery of the Lost City of Kitezh. But treasure hunting isn’t easy, and a ruthless organization called Trinity is after her and the Lost City too.

If you’ve been wanting to play the PlayStation-exclusive Uncharted series, the recent Tomb Raider games are the closest thing to them. You’ll gain a variety of weapons to take on hundreds of soldiers hell-bent on stopping you in your tracks, but Rise of the Tomb Raider also features a few survival elements worthy of putting it on any best survival games list.

Gritty, action-packed, and a heart-pumping great time, Rise of the Tomb Raider is a brilliant action-adventure title that you can jump into without playing 2013’s Tomb Raider, or the previous games either.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: A blacksmith working in a small house in While the Iron's Hot

While the Iron’s Hot – December 5 (Console, PC, Cloud)

Another day-one release on Game Pass, While the Iron’s Hot is an adventure game where you play as a talented blacksmith in a fantasy land called Ellian.

To complete the game, you’ll have to master the process of smithing, forging weapons and equipment. However, there are plenty of ways to deal with situations that don’t require attacking, and instead may require you to use your own wits.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Characters holding out against zombies in a warehouse in World War Z

World War Z: Aftermath – December 5 (Console, PC, Cloud)

One of the best zombie games right now, World War Z: Aftermath is the perfect Left 4 Dead-style game for those looking to take on hordes (and we mean hordes) of undead while trying to survive some intense levels.

World War Z is a third-person co-op shooter at heart where you and your friends (or AI partners) must make it to the end of each level alive, with the Aftermath expansion adding some additional levels and a first-person mode.

If you’ve been waiting for Left 4 Dead 3 like all of us, you may want to give World War Z a try. It’s got plenty of replayability thanks to a variety of classes and customization, so you and your friends can try and create the perfect zombie-killing squad.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Police Officer riding on top of a goat in Goat Simulator 3

Goat Simulator 3 – December 7 (Xbox Series X|S, PC, Cloud)

The indie delight that was Goat Simulator went viral years ago back in 2014, offering a sandbox where you play as a crazed goat attacking unsuspecting humans, finding secrets, and just having a good time.

Don’t worry, you didn’t miss Goat Simulator 2, as it never existed. But Goat Simulator 3 allows you to play with up to three friends in co-op, take part in some crazy mini-games, and experience some of the most random moments in all of gaming. Let the chaos ensue.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: In-game screenshot of building a settlement in Against the Storm

Against the Storm – December 8 (PC)

Another city builder game coming this month is Against the Storm, which is only available on PC Game Pass. Unlike most city management games, you’ll have to create a vast network of settlements in the face of never-ending apocalyptic storms.

In a unique twist for the genre, Against the Storm is also a roguelite, meaning each playthrough gives you progression that makes completing the game easier on your next run. If you’ve been looking for an interesting new take on an age-old genre, Against the Storm is certainly worth trying.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: Tin solider running towards a flower pot in Tin Hearts

Tin Hearts – December 12 (Console, Cloud, PC)

If you remember the classic Lemmings games, then Tin Hearts may be what you need to fill that Lemming-sized hole in your heart. In this game, you’ll have to lead a troop of tin soldiers through a variety of puzzles, in an attempt to relive an emotional story of a genius inventor.

You can mess around with time to find out the consequences of your actions, all while controlling a variety of inventions that can be used to help or hurt your lovely tiny soldiers.

Xbox Game Pass December 2023 games: First-person POV in Far Cry 6 of Dani holding an assault rifle in front of a buggy

Far Cry 6 – December 14 (Console, PC, Cloud)

The latest entry in Ubisoft’s FPS series, Far Cry 6 finally arrives on Game Pass this month. You play as Dani, an inhabitant of Yara who attempts to escape his home country before he’s drafted into a tyrant’s army. However, when things go wrong, Dani must work with a guerilla movement called Libertad in an attempt to overthrow Yara’s corrupt leader.

Far Cry 6’s narrative is, admittedly, a bit disappointing considering the series’ strengths. However, Antón Castillo, played by the incredible Giancarlo Esposito, is a true highlight as the game’s main villain. And like most Far Cry games, there’s a huge open world to explore, cause chaos in, and free from the government’s clutches.

Unfortunately, Far Cry 6’s inclusion in the service doesn’t include the fun villain-focused expansions that were released post-launch. But there are still roughly 20 hours of story to enjoy in Yara, with around 60 hours if you hope to 100% it and complete all of its open-world activities.
