Pokemon Gen 8... meh MyFigureCollection.net

Well... this might be the gen where I decide that I won't really go out of my limb to collect random things outside of TOMY Moncolle or things necessary to complete more dex entries of my figure collection. This may be just an excuse because my Pokemon figure collecting has been peaking for quite a while lol. picture/2353026...
But I've honestly been pretty disenchanted with the Pokemon franchise ever since they made it clear that Gen 6 Mega Evolutions was just a "flavor of the generation" type of deal.

I really bounced back into Pokemon collecting because of gen 6, where I went and caught up with as much as I could from what I missed after stopping towards the start of gen 2. I binged up a LOT of stuff and I'm pretty amazed at how far I got. Gen 6 itself was sweet--of course since that's what brought me back, after all--and the climax of the anime was also great with Greninja and all. I still love my Greninja collection.

I tried to keep it up in gen 7, and I did take a mild liking to some pokes like Lycanroc, the starter evos and whatnot-- which the anime also promoted, and thus those pokes got more merch for me to collect. Because of that I have like at least 2 or 3 of each Lycanroc form as a figure of sorts, likewise multiples of the evo starters, things like that. But then... that's all it ended up as. A... mild... liking. I mean, at this point I was already trying to wean off plushies and all, and so I barely have any plushies of gen 7 Pokemon. FORTUNATELY I never got deep into liking Mimikyu or Alolan Vulpix, because those two in particular were spammed everyone. I do kind of regret getting the extra Mimikyu figures I have now though. At least they're just relatively cheap figures.

RE-MENT also took a big step up throughout this generation, putting out a LOT of really nice sets and initially featuring a lot of Pokemon that didn't have much merch out... But as more sets got released, the more repeats became evident... and now there is a clear pattern that literally only one poke out of a full set is something that hasn't been repeated at least 5 times before, and it's just nasty. I have a lot of RE-MENT's earlier sets, but lately I've been skipping them entirely even if they have something very enticing with that unique poke in their set... It's not been worth the trouble trying to find buyers for the other parts of those sets. If I reallllly needed a specific poke from the set, there are ways (that aren't as cost efficient in the end, but certainly less hassle).

And then... gen 7 itself was also pretty shortlived. We're already on gen 8, with SO many dex gaps for figures in the previous gens left in the wake.

My only actual merchandise for gen 8 so far is my copy of Pokemon Sword (which I beat, including beating Leon in the Battle Tower within 17 hours, and haven't touched the game since because I'd rather be enjoying Fire Emblem Three Houses for over 400 hours), and the TOMY Moncolle trio of the starter Pokemon. But after receiving those three, I only found out that TOMY put out a new "Moncolle Box" set that has the trio, Pikachu, and one of the new gen 8 Pokemon Drednaw... and here I'm wondering what my motivation is to buy a set that's over 3000 yen just to get a little Drednaw figure... and it's not there. Chances are, they'll release Drednaw in a Candy get box which would be about the same price and have 9 other figures to go with it--and I'm more motivated for those. I'm starting to like the smaller figures more, for space reasons, cuteness reasons... XD;; But Moncolle series is the most complete in terms of figures for Pokemon so far, so I still feel compelled to continue with it... sigh. When I can. But not 3000 yen for one figure. TOMY themselves might release Drednaw separately someday. And if they don't... well, there goes my care, out the window. :V

This has nothing to do with the whole dexit thing, I stayed far away from that fiasco entirely. It's mostly just me finally getting tired of these toy companies not willing to put out any effort to actually produce the variety I appreciate.
